Beat the Blue Monday Blues

Posted on January 13 2022

In case you didn't know, the third Monday of January is known as Blue Monday and is said to be the most depressing day of the year. And, it isn't hard to see why. The aftermath of Christmas, the cold weather, long dark nights, your New Years resolutions are failing and you generally just have low motivation levels.

While it isn't scientifically proven to be a thing, it still affects the best of us so we have compiled our 3 top tips that help keep us going on the difficult days:

Get out and about - when it's miserable outside the last thing you'll want to do is leave the house. But, wrapping up warmly and going for a countryside walk is a great idea - the fresh air and vitamin D will do wonders for you.

Rest up! It's okay to not want to plan too much and you're likely to be feeling quite tired and run down after the festivities then being back at work. Listen to your body and rest if you need to or take some time to do the things you enjoy - watch films, read books and any other hobbies you have.

Talk - while we all have good days and bad days, if you are struggling in any way then you should always chat to someone about it - after all, a problem shared is a problem halved.

And of course, be grateful for the positive things that happened last year and look forward to the positive things that are going to happen this year!

If you know someone that is feeling particularly down this month, why not send them a small token gift to show them that you care. A cosy jumper to wear during those cold evenings at home, a personalised mug that they can enjoy their favourite hot drink in or maybe a bookmark to keep the page of the latest book they are reading.
